Worked examples
Each example has a netlist in examples/. You can load it from the Examples… menu or with Open….
Every number quoted in these pages was computed with the engine itself, and most are checked against a closed-form result. Where they come from a finer sweep than the netlist's default, that is noted. The scripts behind them use tools/measure.mjs, and the figures are regenerated by tools/docfigs.py.
| # | Example | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Quarter-wave transformers | First netlist, single lines, two networks in one file, bandwidth check against the closed form |
| 2 | Coupled-line couplers | Zeo, even/odd modes, quadrature and directivity traces, inhomogeneous media, compensating with lumped capacitors and the optimiser |
| 3 | Comb-line filter, spec to loss budget | Synthesis by hand and with the tool, refinement, polishing, insertion loss from Q, spurious passband |
| 4 | Interdigital filter by hand | Writing the design equations as .params, Cg/Cm, tapped sections, comparing hand design with refined synthesis |
| 5 | Marchand balun | Multi-section topology with wire, balance traces, Z0e/Z0o design trade-off |
| 6 | Schiffman 90° phase shifter | C-section with joined ends, phase-difference traces, .goal with = |
| 7 | Three-line section from C and L matrices | General inhomogeneous input from a field solver, reading the modal analysis |
| 8 | From a coupler netlist to a KiCad board | Layout panel, converting impedances to microstrip, physical view of the as-built board, substrate vs connector trade-off, KiCad export |
If you are new to the tool, do 1 → 2 → 4 → 3 in that order. Example 3 assumes you have seen how the closed form in Example 4 works.
